Elon Musk and Donald Trump in Penn.

Any way you dice it, the campaign ads were meant to stir resentment and distaste for presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Call it underhanded political tactics or politics as usual.

The Washington Post reports that political advisers for Tesla founder Elon Musk were behind campaign ads this fall that targeted Muslims in Michigan and praised Vice President Kamala Harris for marrying a Jew and backing Israel.

Musk donated well over $100 million to the Donald Trump campaign.

Additionally, the advisers were behind ads that targeted Jews in Pennsylvania with a message that Harris wanted to stop U.S. arms shipments to Israel. In North Carolina, ads aimed at Black voters said Democrats wanted to take away their menthol cigarettes, while working-class White men in the Midwest were warned that Harris would support quotas for minorities and deny them Zyn nicotine pouches, writes Michael Scherer and Josh Dawsey of the Post.

The Post goes on to write:

What voters had no way of knowing at the time was that all of the ads were part of a single, $45 million effort created by political advisers to Tesla founder Elon Musk who had previously worked on the presidential campaign of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), according to a presentation about the group’s efforts obtained by The Washington Post.
