After 15 Years, Sunday is the Last Day for Lockhart's BBQ in Downtown Royal Oak

No matter how many there are, there never seem to be enough barbecue joints in Metro Detroit.

So, this is a loss.

After 15 years, Lockhart’s BBQ on Third Street in downtown Royal Oak is closing for good on Easter Sunday.

On Facebook, the company announced:

"It is with great sadness that we are making this announcement. We have decided to close Lockhart's BBQ, and our last day serving you will be Sunday, April 20th. Our lease is expiring, and renewing it is just not affordable. We have loved every brisket and rack of ribs that we’ve smoked on our Oyler. More importantly, we have loved meeting so many BBQ fans and enthusiasts over the last 15 years, and we want to thank you for so many great memories."

Facebook fans responded to the post:

This makes me so sad. We have enjoyed coming to Lockhart's BBQ Royal Oak since they opened. The staff has always been so amazing. The managers, Sandy and Autumn quickly became our friends and got to watch our granddaughter grow up over the years (it was her favorite restaurant). Much love to all of you, thank you for all the memories!

Shame. Rent prices are so out of control even a successful business can’t afford it.

Truly sorry to hear this. Lazybones BBQ and now Lockhart’s, all my favorite BBQ joints are shutting down.

In 2015, you guys catered my son’s wedding in Dexter for 300 people! An outdoor venue! We got so many compliments on your food and your ADDED personal service from your on site employees was unbelievable!!!!! You made it so stress free! We will always remember you guys! It was the best! Best of luck to you all! Hope “maybe” something will happen to continue your dreams!

Congrats on a great run! And kudos to you for telling your staff and the public, so many places just close their doors and the employees are not even warned.
Best of luck to you all
