Romell Frazier Jr.
Six-year-old Romell Frazier Jr. of Detroit was released from the hospital this week after an attack by the family's two pit bulls in March left him with two amputated arms and injuries to his legs and left foot, WDIV
reports.
The attack happened at the boy's home on March 19 near Rosemont Avenue and Trojan Street on the city’s west side.
WDIV's Demond Fernandez spoke this week with the mother, Preshauna Jones, and the boy, who is surprisingly upbeat and says he would love to meet his favorite rapper, Kendrick Lamar.
“Can you come to my birthday?” Romell asked. His seventh birthday is July 31.
He has undergone multiple surgeries at Children's Hospital of Michigan and is expected to need more procedures and physical therapy.
The mother said:
“Now, I have to feed him. He was just able to do all of that on his own. I have to be his hands and arms. And it’s just a constant reminder, every day, of the day that this happened.”
“It’s like my baby went through something so tragic, and he is still happy, still, you know, on the go,” Jones said.
WDIV reports that Detroit Animal Care and Control said the child's father told the boy to go outside and clean the yard where the family's two pit bulls were. The boy and the dogs had gotten along for years.
Investigators said the father returned home to find the child unresponsive and the dogs biting him, WDIV reports. The dogs were surrendered to authorities.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said it will not file criminal charges in the case.
A GoFundMe page has been set up. So far, more than $18,000 has been raised.
The page states:
"On Thursday, March 19, 2026, our lives changed in a matter of minutes. Our little boy, Romel Frazier Jr., was outside being a normal 6-year-old child when our two family dogs attacked him, causing him to lose not one but both of his arms."
